Vernon County sheriff’s deputies deployed spike strips  Feb. 1 to stop the vehicle of a De Soto woman who led them and Crawford County deputies  on a 27-mile, two-county, high-speed chase.

According to a news release from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, at approximately 10:45 a.m., authorities identified Heidi Frawley, 19, as having an outstanding felony warrant while investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle in the town of Wheatland.

Frawley led officers on a chase starting at the end of Hoover Road in Wheatland. The pursuit also went through the towns of Sterling, and Franklin in Vernon County, and Freeman township in Crawford County.

At times, Frawley’s vehicle reached speeds of 70 miles per hour. Due to snow and poor driving conditions, deputies from the two counties followed Frawley at safe speeds. They reported that Frawley continued to operate at speeds between 25 and 70 miles per hour, disobeying multiple traffic signs.

Vernon County deputies deployed the Stinger Road Spike Tire Deflating System south of the intersection of Hwys. 27/82 in Franklin township. Frawley’s vehicle tires were deflated, causing her vehicle to safely come to a stop near the intersection of Hwys. 27/82. Frawley was then taken into custody without further incident.

Frawley was out on bond in Vernon and La Crosse counties. She failed to appear at a scheduled court hearing, which prompted the felony arrest warrant.

Frawley is being held in the Vernon County Jail pending a court hearing.
