Boscobel Fire Department to reform charging system

POSTED June 28, 2017 10:06 a.m.

At its April meeting the board of the Boscobel and Rural Fire District voted to reform and update the fire department’s method of billing for their services. It is believed that a system modeled after the guidelines of the Nation Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) would be more fair to the people of the district and clarify charges for insurance companies.

Currently, all calls by the department are billed out at $500 regardless of the resources used by the department. Even though the department is supported by tax dollars from the city of Boscobel and the surrounding townships, this does not cover all of the department’s expenses in responding to emergencies. The department charges what could be called a user fee to offset some of the fuel and manpower costs associated with each fire or emergency call.
