POSTED November 15, 2017 2:47 p.m.

On Wednesday, Nov. 8 the Lafayette County American Legion sponsored an event for eleventh grade students in the county called County Government Day.  This gives the junior students a chance to come to the Lafayette County Courthouse and learn how the government works at the county level.  This year 125 students from the Blanchardville, Belmont, Shullsburg and Darlington schools attended the program.  In the morning they were able to tour the courthouse and sheriffs department and get an opportunity to listen to department heads talk about their jobs and how they work.  Joe Boll gave tours of the courthouse and gave them a history of when and how it was built.  The County Legion also gave a brief history of The American Legion.  In the afternoon the students had the opportunity to listen to speakers from Southwest Tech, UW-Platteville and from an Army Recruiter.  Pictured are all the students on the courthouse who attended the event.
