POTOSI — Potosi’s 2017–18 season opener against visiting Pecatonica was over nearly as soon as it began.

The Chieftains held the Vikings scoreless for the first 16:23 and scored the game’s first 43 points.

Senior Abby Kaiser poured in a game-high 33 points, most of them in the Chieftains’ 47-point first half, and Potosi cruised to a 63–16 non-conference victory.

Kaiser added 12 steals, seven rebounds and a pair of assists.

Fourteen of Potosi’s 15 players on the varsity roster saw playing time. Nine of them scored. Senior forward Sophie Langkamp missed the game with a badly sprained ankle.

Junior guard Amber Udelhoven, who played at Fennimore last year, had nine points, six steals and five rebounds in her first game for the Chieftains

Senior Brittany Horner had five points, four rebounds and three steals, while senior guard Hannah Udelhofen had four points and six rebounds. Freshman

Sydney Fecht added four points and fellow freshman Lily Post pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Potosi made 29 steals and forced 40 turnovers in the blowout win. The Chieftains also dominated the glass, pulling down 41 total boards.

Emily Zimmerman, Ninah McKeon and Krin Broshous scored three points each to lead the Vikings.

Coach Brad Bierman and the Chieftains will open Six Rivers West conference play Friday at home against defending conference champion Shullsburg and reigning SRW Player of the Year, senior center Brianna Leahy. The Miners (2–0) defeated Albany 56–51 in overtime last Monday night to open the season.

Shullsburg went a perfect 12–0 in league play a year ago and finished 22–4 overall. Potosi posted an 11–13 mark and finished fifth in the Six Rivers West at 5–7.
