County Government Day

On Wednesday, Nov. 8 the Lafayette County American Legion sponsored an event for eleventh grade students in the county called County Government Day. This gives the junior students a chance to come to the Lafayette County Courthouse and learn how the government works at the county level. This year 125 students from the Blanchardville, Belmont, Shullsburg and Darlington schools attended the program. In the morning they were able to tour the courthouse and sheriffs department and get an opportunity to listen to department heads talk about their jobs and how they work. South Wayne's street construction in final phase

Laying down blacktop marks the end phase of a summer long street project in South Wayne. FEMA declaration approved for county

LAFAYETTE COUNTY - Theresa Burgess, Lafayette County Emergency Director, announced that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has declared Lafayette County and ten other counties as major disaster areas for a flooding event that happened in the county July 19 - 23, 2017. These counties are eligible for federal funds provided under the Stafford Act for Hazard Mitigation. FEMA provides no less than 75% reimbursement of eligible documented costs, the State of Wisconsin provides up to 12.5% of eligible documented costs, and the local government, provide the remaining match (usually 12.5%).

New proposal for vacation/personal time, hospital employee raise still questioned

City clerk retirement announced

The Fennimore Common Council accepted the retirement letter of City Clerk/Treasurer Margaret Sprague at their bi-monthly meeting Monday evening, Oct. 23. Sprague has served in the position for 29 years. She will finish her tenure on Dec. 31, 2017.
