MHLC settles Cleary lawsuit

LAFAYETTE COUNTY - The Lafayette County Hospital Committee came out of closed session at their Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 meeting and approved Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County (MHLC) funding $100,000 to settle the Dr. Cleary non-compete lawsuit with FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Ill. No other information was offered at the meeting.

Riverway Board backs registration fee for canoeists

The time before and after the meeting of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board meeting on Thursday, Jan. 12 was filled with the usual grumbling discussion of winter cold and the careful mincing steps needed to navigate the ice still tenaciously clinging to sidewalk and parking lot, but inside the meeting, these conditions were met with welcome. What is making life treacherous for commuters and town shoppers is ideal for the DNR foresters working to control invasive woody plants in our natural areas.

Common Council approves 2017 city budget of $2.6M

With little discussion and no public participation, the Boscobel Common Council passed a 2017 city budget of $2.6 million on Monday night, an increase of 0.9 percent over last year. The net tax rate increased from $19.85 to $23.62 per $1,000 of assessed valuation-an increase of 19 percent.

Antennae on water tower discussed

DARLINGTON – A continued discussion at the Darlington Water and Sewer Committee brought back ComElect and Mike Rettenmeier of ComElec to discuss the possibility of placing antennae on the North water tower. The antennae will be used to connect internet customers with ComElec.

Council will vote on 2017 city budget Monday

The Boscobel Common Council will meet Monday at 7 p.m. for a public hearing on the 2017 city budget. A preliminary budget released late last month shows very little change from the 2016 budget, when the gross city tax was $2,578,453. That compares to $2,601,701 in 2017-an increase of 0.9 percent.
