Driver Opera House awarded $540,000 grant

DARLINGTON - After applying for the flood proofing grant about eight or nine years ago, but having to postpone because the funds were not there, the DNR was able to approve those plans for the Driver Opera House. The grant will help protect the building against floods without harming its historical structure.

State Senator Howard Marklein and State Representative Ed Brooks took time to meet with Executive Director of Schmitt Woodland Hills Jackie Carley and Administrator of Pine Valley Community Village Kathy Cianci to learn about the workforce crisis that is affecting long term care across the state. Other staff attended the meeting to explain that there are over 11,000 caregiver vacancies across Wisconsin mainly due to wage competition with unskilled jobs. Quilts with thanks for service

Clifford McCabe of Platteville is pictured with a quilt pieced by his daughter, Angela Bergan of Elkader, Iowa, and machine-quilted by Shirley Harwood of Prairie du Chien. Harwood is a member of Quilts of Valor, which has provided more than 130,000 quilts to service members and veterans since 2003. McCabe was a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
