Library Activities
DARLINGTON – The Johnson Public Library has many events for the public to enjoy. The events for October are: Oct. 6-Story Hour 10 a.m.; Oct 9-Wii after school 3:45 p.m.; Oct. 10-Story ‘n’ Craft Hour 10 a.m.; Oct. 11-Wacky Wednesday Tech Day! 3:45 p.m.; Oct. 12-Passport to Reading Book Club 3:45 p.m. (gr. 1 & 2); Oct. 13-Story Hour 10a.m./ Book Buzz Book Club 1:45 p.m. (gr. 3-5).
McCoy Public Library
SHULLSBURG – Fall-A-Days Story Hour at McCoy Public Library is for children 3 years old-5K.  We will meet on Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. Oct. 3 - Nov. 14 (no Story Hour Oct. 31). Each week will have a variety of engaging stories, creative crafts and fun activities! 
Darlington Food Pantry
DARLINGTON – The monthly Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry will take place on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017 from 4-5 p.m. The Pantry is held in the lower level of Town bank. There are no income requirements for people wishing to participate. Volunteers are needed from 3 to 6 p.m. You may help with all or part of the pantry. To volunteer you may come to the pantry and register as a volunteer or call Carrie at 608-293-0791.
Porch Fest
SHULLSBURG – The 2nd Annual Copeland Porch Fest will be Friday, Oct. 6 from 7-11 p.m. with music by “The Copeland Bellhops” featuring Keel Clemmens & Shullsburg native Jim DiTulio. “Sed and Jed” are back serving up their delicious homemade food! Come hungry! Grounds open at 6 p.m. Bring your chair and your beverage of choice.
Shullsburg Cheesefest
SHULLSBURG – Shullsburg Cheesefest will be Oct. 7. There will be hayrides, kids games, cheese making, fireman’s breakfast, wine/cheese parings, food truck and lots of entertainment. You need to be signed up by Sept. 29 to be in the scarecrow contest. Judging is held on Friday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. 1st place will received $500. Three runners up will get $100 each. Don’t miss out on the fun and save the date.
Trivia Night
SHULLSBURG – Trivia night at Kingsley Crossing is Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. Drinks will be available to purchase. $10/person with teams of 8 people. Make sure you stop over after the great festivities at Cheesefest.
Homecoming 5K Fun Run
SOUTH WAYNE – Black Hawk Schools 3rd Annual Homecoming 5K Fun Run/Walk is Saturday, Oct. 7 starting at 7 a.m. Registration begins at Black Hawk School District on Friday, Oct. 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. of Saturday, Oct. 7 from 6:15 to 6:45 a.m. Price for all participants include entry fee, t-shirt, breakfast, from the FFA, sling bag, post-race snack and area donated items.
DFD Gun Banquet
DARLINGTON – The Darlington Fire Department invites you to their annual Gun Banquet Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Darlington Fire Department Fire House, with doors opening at 4 p.m. and dinner being served at 6 p.m. Grand Prize is a 10 Pt. Eclipse Cross Bow, Ruger SR 556 AR and a Ruger LC9 Pistol. There will be a women’s auction with a chance to win a gun and the youth table will have a variety of prizes. $60 per ticket, which includes meal and chance to win a gun. Bats of Yellowstone
BLANCHARDVILLE – Join Yellowstone Lake State Park’s Naturalist for hands-on learning activities for all ages on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. to learn about the Bats of Yellowstone Lake State Park.  Meet at the amphitheater near the campground. Park programs are free, but a vehicle admission sticker is required.  Park Office: 608-523-4427.
Bull Riding and Barrel Racing
BLOOMINGTON – For the first time at the Blakes Prairie Jr. Fairgrounds, Rice Bull Riding presents Professional Bull Riding and Barrel Racing, starting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7. Get ready for some heart-pounding, bone-breaking action.
Wiota Fireman’s Auxiliary
WIOTA – The Wiota Fireman’s Auxiliary will be meeting at the Wiota Town Hall on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.  Plans for the annual Halloween Party being held on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 will be finalized.
Bluebird Nest Nature Center
DARLINGTON – Join our talented Mineral Point artist and teacher, Carol Getman for an evening of fun at the Bluebird Nest Nature Center, 308 Main Street, Darlington, on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 7:00 p.m. Carol will be teaching card making. All supplies are provided, and there is no charge. Enrollment is limited. Please call Sue at 776-2290 to reserve a spot.
Women’s Guild
DARLINGTON – The Women’s Guild of Immanuel Church will be meeting on Thursday, Oct. 12 at noon. The program will be “Bringing a used gift exchange” Committee will be Judy Huntington: chair, Kate Black: co-chair, Chris Fortin, Chris Ubersox, Helen Parr, Nancy Slama and Mary Lindell. Everyone is always welcome to join with us.
Early Autumn Astronomy

Community Blood Drive
LAFAYETTE COUNTY - The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to resolve to give blood regularly. Sixteen year olds are accepted with parental consent. New donors must bring a photo ID and another form of ID. Garden Club
DARLINGTON – The Darlington Garden Club will meet Thursday Oct. 19, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of Town Bank in Darlington. Carol Kranz will present the program. JoAn Blaine is the hostess.
Creepy Critters at McCoy Public Library
SHULLSBURG – Bring the family on Oct. 26 from 6-7 p.m. to the McCoy Public Library for the Creepy Critters program. Halloween is just around the corner and spooky animals are on the loose in McCoy Library.  You will have a chance to see and hold a variety of animals.
Holy Rosary Spaghetti Dinner
DARLINGTON – Holy Rosary School Families are sponsoring a Spaghetti Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Our Lady of Fatima Parish Hall.  Tickets will be sold at the door for $5.00 a plate.  Kids 5 and under will be free with an adult dinner.  Carryouts will also be available.  The proceeds from the spaghetti dinner will be used towards the new playground for our students and the surrounding neighborhood.
