Rabbits and Gary Bird together since he was a Muscoda teenager

POSTED August 3, 2017 9:11 a.m.

Rabbits have been part of Gary Bird’s life seemingly forever. He recalls his mother taking him to a rabbit show and he successfully begged for a bunny.

That may have been the beginning of learning one of life’s lessons. The rabbit needed food and food cost money. A paper route was one way a kid could come up with cash.

It was not just rabbits that caught Gary’s eye. He also thought having chickens would be a good idea. Local stock buyer Charlie Bauer had a few chickens hanging around the stockyards just outside of town and he told Gary he could have them if he could catch them.

For the complete story about Gary and his fuzzy companions please see the Aug. 3 edition of the Muscoda Progressive.
