Pop Factory Players perform “Chicago”

POSTED January 11, 2018 11:26 a.m.

The Pop Factory Players are proud to announce that this year’s production will be “Chicago,” with a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, choreography from Bob Fosse, and music by John Kander. “Chicago” is now the number one longest running American musical in Broadway history. “Chicago” was the winner of 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording. To top this off, it also won the 2002 Academy Award for Best Picture.
Set amidst the razzle dazzle decadence of the 1920’s, “Chicago” is the story of Roxie Hart (Meghan Taylor), a housewife and nightclub dancer who impulsively murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, and sway public opinion, the media, and her rival cellmate Velma Kelly (Lynda Higgins) in her favor, she hires Chicago’s slickest criminal defense lawyer, Billy Flynn (Luke Smetters). She dreams of transforming her crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.
“Chicago” is filled with memorable songs such as All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango, Razzle Dazzle, and Mister Cellophane, and amazing choreography from Bob Fosse. Add to that, cast of some of this area’s most accomplished singers and dancers, and this will be one production you won’t want to miss!
Production dates are a bit earlier this year with opening night Saturday, Jan. 13 at 7:30. Additional performances are Sunday, Jan. 14 at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 21 at 1:30 p.m. Performances are at the Darlington High School Leona Havens Theater and tickets are $12 general admission, sold at the door.
