Madison Albert-Nelson, Jr., Platteville summer swimming

NEW GLARUS — Platteville’s Madison Albert-Nelson had quite a day at last Wednesday’s Sugar River triangular. The junior-to-be won six events and broke four team records in the process to lead the Platteville summer swim team to a second-place finish.

Nelson, a two-year WIAA state qualifier for the Platteville/Lancaster girls swim team, won the girls’ 15-18 100-yard individual medley in a new team record time of 1:14.36. She won the 100 freestyle in a record-time of 1:04.13 and set a new 50 backstroke team record of 33.23 seconds to win the event. Albert-Nelson then teamed with Sierra Wunderlin and Elizabeth Pronschinske to win the girls’ 15-18 200 medley relay in time of 2:18.20 to set an unofficial team record, and amazingly swam the lead off and anchor leg because Platteville only had three swimmers for the event. Albert-Nelson also won the 50 butterfly (31.11) and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay (2:20.55).

Albert-Nelson and Platteville will travel to Dodgeville for a quadragular with Dodgeville, Mineral Point and Prairie du Chien Thursday, July 12 at 5 p.m. before competing at the Monroe Dr. Stiles Invitational on July 14.
