Reid Larson, Sr., QB/DB, Fennimore football

     FENNIMORE — Fennimore senior Reid Larson got the party started with a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown midway through the first quarter, then proceeded to throw four touchdowns to lead the top-seeded Golden Eagles to a 35–0 rout of visiting Cuba City (6–5) in last Friday’s WIAA Division 6 Level 2 playoff game at FHS.

     Larson finished the night 15 of 18 for 208 yards and also booted four extra points. He threw a pair of 13-yards touchdown passes to senior wide out Maguire Fitzgerald, a 25-yard deflected TD pass to junior Kellen Kenney and a 33-yard strike to a wide-open Aidan Nutter midway thought the third quarter to complete the night.

     Larson has completed 135 of 196 passes this season for 2,162 yards and 27 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He has also ran for 133 yards and 6 scores. 

      Fennimore (10–1) will host third-seeded Lancaster (8–3) this Friday night at 7 p.m. in a Level 3 playoff game. The Golden Eagles blanked the Flying Arrows 14–0 in a non-conference season-opener back on Aug. 17.

 

HONORABLE MENTION (in alphabetical order):

Dawson Bowen, Sr., RB/DB, Lancaster football

     Bowen rushed for a career-high 228 yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries to lead Lancaster (8–3) to a dominating 42–6 victory over seventh-seeded Darlington (5–6) in last Friday’s WIAA Division 6 Level 2 playoff game. Bowen has rushed for 717 yards and a team-high 15 touchdowns on 97 carries heading into Friday night’s Level 3 rematch with top-seeded Fennimore (10–1).

 

Drew Hennessey, Sr., RB/WR/LB, Highland football

     Hennessey rushed for  201 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries, caught a 7-yard touchdown pass and made six tackles to lead the Cardinals (7–4) to a 47–0 shutout of Ithaca in last Friday’s WIAA Division 7 Level 2 playoff game.

 

Nick Jansen, Sr., RB/LB, Benton/Scales Mound football

     Jansen rushed for a game-high 275 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries and led the Zephyrs’ defense with 15 tackles, including three for loss and a sack, to led sixth-seeded Benton/Scales Mound to a 32–6 upset victory of second-seeded Johnson Creek in a WIAA Division 6 Level 2 playoff game last Friday night.

 

Kayci Martensen, Fr., Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton 

     Martensen capped her sensational freshman season with a third-place finish in the WIAA Girls Division 2 State Cross Country meet in Wisconsin Rapids last Saturday with a time of 18:31.6.

 

Ilse Mendez, Sr., Darlington girls cross country

     Mendez set a new school record of 19:21.4 to place fifth in the WIAA Division 3 Girls State Cross Country Championships Saturday at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. Her fifth-place showing was the highest ever individual finish at the state meet by a Darlington girl.
