GAME OF THE WEEK (Jan. 11–17)

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Potosi (9–1, 6–0, #9 D5) at Shullsburg (10–2, 5–1), Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Potosi can take a two-game lead in the race for this year’s Six Rivers West girls basketball title with a win at Shullsburg on Friday night in this week’s McDonald’s Game of the Week. The host Miners can force a tie atop the West standings, but must find a way to slow down the league’s leading scorer Abby Kaiser and sidekicks Sophie Langkamp and Amber Udelhoven.

Potosi, ranked ninth in the latest Division 5 coach’s poll, defeated Shullsburg 58–49 on Dec. 1 in the first meeting between the two schools. Kaiser finished with a game-high 27 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals and the Chieftains held Shullsburg senior center Brianna Leahy to just one point over the final 10 minutes. Langkamp, who had 12 points in the first meeting, scored a career-high 30 points in Monday’s 80–55 win over Wauzeka–Steuben and had 15 points and a career-high 18 rebounds in Friday’s 64–63 win at Benton.

Leahy, who earlier this year recorded her fourth career triple–double, is averaging 12.5 points, 12.6 rebounds, 5.3 blocks and 3.2 assists per game for the Miners, who improved to 5–1 in league play with a 58–19 win over Highland on Tuesday. She had 21 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks in the early-season-loss to Potosi. Nicole Teutschmann made six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 18 points in Tuesday's win to lead Shullsburg.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Platteville (10–3, 3–1 SWC) at River Valley (7–4, 4–0 SWC), Friday, 6:30 p.m.

The Blackhawks will host the Hillmen Friday in a battle for first place in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference. Platteville has not won a conference title since 1996–97, but a win Friday night would put them in a first-place tie with River Valley. The Hillmen lost a 56–55 heartbreaker to visiting Prairie du Chien on Dec. 15 when Gavin Gillitzer hit a 30-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer for a one-point win. Platteville has won six of seven since that setback, including a 65–61 win at Dodgeville last Friday night. Senior Donovan Blevins leads Platteville in both scoring and rebounding at 13.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Junior point guard Cade Rohrbach averages 9.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Conner Mickelson (11.4 ppg, 6.2 rpg), Bailey Amble (10.9 ppg) and Ben Fortney (10.7 ppg) all averaged double figures for River Valley. Brett Nachreiner (9.8 ppg, 7 rpg, 3.4 apg) leads the Blackhawks in both rebounds and assists.
