GAME OF THE WEEK (June 13–June 19)

WBCA DIVISION 5 GIRLS ALL-STAR BASKETBALL GAME: South 78, North 71

WISCONSIN DELLS — Benton’s Emma Lawrence scored seven of her game-high 18 points during a key two-minute span late in the fourth quarter to rally the Division 5 South All-Stars over the North, 78–71, at the 2018 Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Girls’ All-Star Games held at the JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells on Friday, June 15.

Trailing 60–48 heading into the fourth quarter, the South trimmed the deficit down to 66–63 on back-to-back baskets by Potosi’s Abby Kaiser with 3:21.

Lawrence took over the game from there scoring a layup and a pair of free throws to tie the game at 69 all before swishing home her fourth 3-pointer of the game with 1:19 remaining to thrust the South into the lead at 74–71.

The South put the game away at the foul line by sinking four clutch free throws down the stretch.

The D5 South team fell behind by as many as 16 points in the third quarter, but found a way to rally thanks to a strong Six Rivers Conference presence.

Lawrence scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter as the South outscored the North 30-11 in the stanza to erase a 12-point deficit.

Kaiser added six of her eight points in the fourth frame, while Barneveld’s Taryn Pickarts sank three 3s on her way to nine points.

Black Hawk’s Hannah Herbst chipped in with five points and Shullsburg’s Brianna Leahy added four points for the South All-Stars.

The South also posted a 61–59 come-from-behind win in the D4 game and an 81–77 victory in the D1 contest to down the North, 3–2, on the day. The North posted wins of 86–62 in the D3 game and 81–77 in the D2 game.
