A trail camera installed at the home of Chuck and Elsie Virtue, 8519 Cross Cut Road, shows what appears to be a brown bear (on the right) and another unidentified animal. This photo was shot early May 3. Elsie Virtue’s son, Curt Visser, was letting out his dogs around 10 p.m. when, she said, “All of a sudden he saw this critter in the yard — it looked like a big cat. It’s definitely a bear, but we don’t know for sure what the other one is.” There have been cougar sightings in the Platteville area as recently as 2012.
