Beef cow-calf workshop Sept. 5 in Westby

University of Wisconsin-Extension and The Western Wisconsin Beef Producers Cooperative will be hosting a Beef Cow Calf workshop in Westby Sept. 5.

The workshop will be held at the Westby VFW, 205 N. Main St.

Topics that will be covered at the workshops include: “Vaccination Programs for the Whole Herd” presented by Dr. Sandy Stuttgen, DVM, UW Extension Agent- Taylor County. Stuttgen will discuss what good vaccination protocols are and how to work with you veterinarian to develop a vaccination protocol for your herd.

“Pregnancy Checking as a Herd Management Tool” will be presented by Katie Pfeiffer, UW Extension Agent Sauk County.  Pregnancy checking the herd can provide beef cow-calf operations with more information than whether or not to keep a cow over the winter or not.  It can also be a tool to assess reproductive health of the entire herd.  Information on using pregnancy checking as a herd management tool will be presented.

“Winter Cow Feeding Considerations”- presented by Bill Halfman UW Extension Agent- Monroe County.  This presentation will address different evaluating the herds condition how to evaluate different options for feeding the cows to make sure they are in good condition for next year.

The workshop will begin with registration and a complimentary dinner starting at 5:45 p.m.  The presentations will begin at 6:30 p.m, and should conclude at 8:30 p.m.
