Corn harvest meeting Aug. 29

Area dairy, livestock and corn growers are invited to attend a meeting on planning this year’s harvest of corn for grain and silage that most likely will be very immature.

The meeting will be held Aug. 29 from 1-3 p.m. at the Westby VFW on Main Street.

With late planting this spring due to wet conditions and a cool growing season there is tremendous variability in the 2013 corn crop in Vernon, La Crosse and Monroe counties.   Many acres of corn intended for grain will most likely not mature and will need to be harvested as corn silage.  Pricing corn silage will also be covered at the meeting.

The speaker for the meeting will be Joe Lauer, UW-Extension Corn Specialist.

There is no cost or need to register for the meeting.  For questions, contact Tim Rehbein at the Vernon County UW-Extension Office at 608-637-5276.
