FSA disaster loans available to Vernon County farmers

Farm Service Agency (FSA), disaster loans are available to farmers in  Vernon County who have suffered qualifying damages or losses caused by caused by heavy rainfall, freezing temperatures, thawing and refreezing,  resulting in winterkill  that occurred Jan. 1-May 15, 2013.

Actual loss loans for production losses will be based on the disaster year production compared to the previous three (3) year production history.

Actual loss loans for physical damages to property destroyed or damaged will be based upon the allowable cost associated with repairing or replacing the property destroyed or damaged

Also, the damaged or destroyed property must be essential to the continuation of the operation. Interest rates for actual loss l

oans not to exceed $500,000 will be two and one quarter percent (2.25%).
FSA is prohibited from making loans to applicants who can obtain credit elsewhere.

The deadline for filing applications is March 10, 2014.
