How to support a scholarship: A truckload of Tranel corn

Myron and Sheila Tranel have committed a truck load of corn annually to endow a $30,000 scholarship fund within the PHS Scholarship Fund.

Their intent is to forever support a $1,000 scholarship each year for a Platteville School District High School graduate beginning in May 2013.

“It seemed like a good thing — the right thing to do,” said Myron Tranel. “College students need the financial support.  Our children, Luke and Laura, received a good education from PHS and the Platteville Community has been great for our family and our business.”

“We believe that a good education provides a solid foundation for life and we are grateful to be able to assist PHS students in this way,” said Sheila Tranel.

Myron Tranel was on the Platteville school board for nine years and worked with UW–Platteville for many years. Sheila is a nurse at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. They have a farm just south of Platteville and Myron is a co-owner of Century 21 Southwestern Realty in Platteville.

Myron and Sheila’s son, Luke (PHS 1999 and UW–Whitewater 2003) is in real estate in Fond du Lac.  He and wife Pam, a speech pathologist, have three children, Henry, Oliver and Rosemary. Daughter Laura (PHS 2001, UW–Madison 2005 and St. Louis University Medical School 2010) is a pediatrician at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. She is married to Danny Holt, a Radiologist at Washington University.

“Myron was a Platteville school board member for nine years and was highly respected by his colleagues and the general public for his incredible work ethic and his devotion to all things that make Platteville a better community,” said former Platteville school superintendent Dean Isaacson. “It is no surprise that he and Sheila would generously fund an endowed PHS scholarship.  It is a reflection of their continuing commitment to education and the Platteville community.”

The PHS Scholarship Fund’s mission is to expand access to higher education for the students of the Platteville School District.  The Fund fulfills this mission primarily by providing higher education scholarships for Platteville graduates to help them further their post-high school education.
