Registration remains open for the 2014 Focus on Goats Conference at UW–Platteville Feb. 7–8.

This two-day event includes speakers, a trade show, breakout sessions and cheese reception.

The theme of this year’s conference is Profitability and Progress. The 2014 Focus on Goats Conference is coordinated by the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, UW–Extension and the Wisconsin Dairy Goat Association.

Speakers include Katie Hedrich of LaClare Farms and Secretary Ben Brancel of DATCP. Trade show venders will be available during Saturday’s breakfast session to answer questions about their products and services.

Breakout sessions will benefit dairy goat farmers and processors. Farmers can learn about feed alternatives, herd health, record keeping and farm financials. Processors can participate in discussions on adding value to goat milk and business planning.

The conference will end with a special discovery session on identifying options for male kids. All attendees will participate in the discussion on challenges, opportunities and next steps to take to grow profitability in this area.

To attend the full conference, the registration fee is $65 for an individual or $110 for two people. A single day registration is available for $40. There are also discounted rates available for students.

To register, visit www.wdga.org/fog-2014. Online registration ends on Feb. 3. Attendees can also register at the door on the day of the event.

The public is welcome to attend a cheese reception on Friday evening. A $5 fee at the door is required.
