Main Street raises $7,164 for produce

The Platteville Main Street Program has distributed, and redeemed, more than $15,000 of vouchers used by senior citizens and clients of the Platteville Food Pantry at the Farmers Market over the past three summers to purchase locally grown produce.

The money to fund these two programs all was raised via grants or the generous donations of private groups and individuals. No tax dollars were used.

In 2012 $7,164 was used to purchase produce, 36 percent more than in 2011.

“It is only through the continuing support of our funding partners that Main Street can carry these two programs forward as the need continues to grow,” said Main Street executive director Jack Luedtke. “This is a fine example of neighbors helping neighbors right here at home in Platteville. There is no greater personal satisfaction than that.”

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the 2013 funding effort can send it to The Platteville Nutrition Program at Platteville Main Street Program, 20 S. Fourth St., Platteville, WI 53818.
