Platteville chamber makes Travel Green list

The Platteville Area Chamber of Commerce is one of 19 tourism-related businesses to get the state Department of Tourism Travel Green Wisconsin certification.

Nine state parks, three state trails, three nonprofit organizations, an American Indian business, a museum and a discovery center were honored for their creative efforts to go green, from partnering with local sustainability groups to creating websites to educate others about going green to using solar energy. The Travel Green Wisconsin list includes 325 travel and hospitality properties.

The chamber office on Business 151 uses a 200-gallon rain barrel to collect rainwater for reuse, uses Energy Star qualified appliances, and purchases products in bulk or concentrate. The facility is the first Travel Wisconsin welcome center to become Travel Green certified.
