Chaseburg man dies in snowmobile crash
DNR believes speed and alcohol to be factors

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reports a Readstown man died  March 6  in a snowmobile accident at approximately 8:36 p.m. on a public snowmobile trail near Weister Creek Road and Co. Road P in the Town of Stark.

Joshua McCauley, 31, was traveling northbound on a snowmobile trail near Hwy. P when he lost control of his snowmobile and struck a tree. McCauley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.  McCauley was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.

Assisting the Department of Natural Resources at the scene were the LaFarge Ambulance, LaFarge Fire Department, the Viola Fire Department along with the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and Med-Link Air.

The accident remains under investigation by the DNR.
