Authorities believe alcohol may be a factor in a one-vehicle crash Dec. 19 which resulted in injuries to a Readstown woman.

According to a news release from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, at approximately 11:51 p.m., 55-year-old Theresa Hughes was driving on South Glass Road in Kickapoo township when her vehicle crossed the center line on a curve.

It went off the road and continued down an embankment before striking a tree and coming to rest at the bottom of a ditch.

Hughes was not wearing a seat belt. Both airbags in her vehicle deployed.

When emergency personnel arrived, she was bleeding from the face as a result of striking the windshield. Hughes also complained of leg pain.

She was transported by ambulance to Vernon Memorial Healthcare in Viroqua.
