Platteville police are investigating a break-in in which a gun was fired early Friday.

An individual was forcibly trying to get into the back door of a North Fourth Street residence around 12:15 a.m, police said.

While one resident was calling 911, the other resident challenged the subject, and, believing that the subject was breaking in through the main door, fired one round from a .38 Special handgun through the door. No one was injured.

Officers arrived on scene shortly thereafter and found a man who they believe was the subject attempting to gain entry into the residence.

The suspect was quite intoxicated and said he was not aware of his involvement, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate. The case will be be referred to the Grant County District Attorney’s office for review, according to police.
