Domestic dispute in Muscoda ends with assailants suicide

A woman was severely beaten and her assailant dead following a domestic dispute in Muscoda Saturday afternoon.

According to the Muscoda Police Department, on Saturday, Aug. 15 at approximately 4:27 p.m., Muscoda Police were notified of a physical domestic dispute that occurred at 317 W. River Road.

When officers arrived they met with Candice A Carr, 63, of Muscoda, who was bound with duct tape and severely beaten.

Carr told officers the she and her boyfriend, David G Friese, 61, also of Muscoda, had gotten into a verbal argument that quickly turned physical.  Friese struck Carr several times with an aluminum bat and as she tried to fight back Friese bound her with duct tape and continued to hit her with the bat.

The assault lasted several minutes and ended when Friese took his own life with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Carr was able to free one hand using her teeth and a small pen knife that was sitting on the table next to her and called 911.

Carr was transported to the Richland Hospital with broken bones, cuts, and bruises.  She was later transported to the UW Madison Hospital and is currently listed in fair condition.

The Muscoda Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, Boscobel Police Department and Muscoda EMS.
