A 29-year-old Fitchburg man was arrested after his drive on U.S. 18/151 at 143 mph ended with a crash Sunday evening.

Daniel Sandoval Arandia was arrested by Barneveld police after his 2005 Infiniti crashed on 18/151 at Pikes Peak Road in the Town of Brigham, according to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department.

Barneveld police tried to stop the car as Sandoval Arandia was driving west on 18/151 around 6:40 p.m. The crash caused a minor grass fire, but the Barneveld officer and an Iowa County sheriff’s deputy extinguished the fire before damage was done to the car, according to the sheriff’s department.

Sandoval Arandia was arrested for drunk driving and felony eluding, and was cited for driving 143 mph in a 65-mph zone.

Barneveld Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
