The Hillsboro Police Department warned city residents Aug. 30 of a telephone scam involving the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Callers claiming to be representatives of the IRS inform potential victims they owe back taxes or money of some sort.
In a post on the department’s Facebook page, police said citizens need to know this is not how the IRS conducts business and urge citizens not to provide information.

Police have also  had reports of the scammers saying the police will arrest the person. Again, this is not how business is conducted.

Citizens who are still concerned after receiving a call should contact the IRS and find out if the information is true.
