A La Crosse man has been charged with operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and theft following an incident in Elroy late last year.

According to the criminal complaint, on Nov. 12, law enforcement was dispatched to a stolen vehicle complaint at a residence on the 100 block of North Brooklyn Ave. The victim said she went to bed and woke up later to find that her vehicle, purse and other items were gone. She told police that Martin Curlee, 33,  had been living with her for about a month and that he was the only person at the residence before her possessions went missing.

The complaint adds that the district manager of Pawn America later reported Curlee had sold items matching the description of those stolen in their Onalaska store. The victim later confirmed the items were hers.

Curlee has an initial appearance scheduled for April 1.
