Law enforcement warns of IRS scam calls

Local law enforcement agencies have taken reports of people receiving telephone calls from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). They remind the public that this is a scam.

The IRS will not call if you owe taxes without first sending a bill in the mail, will not require that you pay taxes a certain way, and will not threaten to bring in police or other agencies to arrest you for not paying.

Authorities say these scammers are difficult to track due to technology used to spoof phone numbers, and it is likely they are calling from another state or country.
