A 40-year-old Mount Sterling man was arrested Jan. 28 for allegedly stealing and trying to sell boards from a tobacco shed.
According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, Jeffrey Bolstad was arrested at 3:30 p.m. as a suspect in a crime that was reported at 10:15 a.m. that same day.
Several weathered boards were removed from a tobacco shed along Chadwick Hollow Road in Liberty township.
Bolstad was apprehended while trying to sell the boards at a business in rural Readstown.
Weathered boards are popular for decorative use in building design.
Bolstad is being held on $2,500 cash bond. Charges are being sought through the Vernon County District Attorney’s office.
Assisting with the arrest were the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating other unsolved crimes of a similar nature. It released a photograph of Bolstad’s truck and trailer and is asking the public to contact the department or Crime Stoppers if they have any information on other alleged criminal activity by Bolstad.
