Tomah couple arrested in Mauston motel for Viroqua burglary

The Juneau County Sheriff’s Department and Mauston police arrested two Tomah residents Feb. 19 in conjunction with a residential burglary in Viroqua.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, Katie Wood, 25, and Randy Harmel, 34, were taken into custody in a Mauston motel room.

Late last Thursday or during the early morning hours, Friday, a burglary was reported at a residence on Co. SS in rural Viroqua. Documents and an unknown amount of cash were taken. The burglary was suspected to have happened when the homeowner was away.

Property from the burglary was recovered in Wood and Harmel’s  hotel room.

The pair were taken to Vernon County, where a bail hearing was held Feb. 22. Charges are being sought through the Vernon County District Attorney’s Office.

Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said more arrests could be forthcoming.
