The man accused of robbing Domino’s Pizza in Platteville Dec. 19 was placed on five years probation in Grant County Circuit Court in Lancaster Thursday.

Ryan J. Barthel, 39, Madison, pleaded no contest May 14 to a charge of robbery with threat of force.

Barthel was ordered to pay restitution within 60 days, stay out of gambling facilities and not participate in online gambling, and participate in group support network recovery, and when deemed ready by his probation officer devote five hours per month to volunteer service for gambling addiction or childhood trauma.

Employees of Dominos Pizza, 490 E. Business 151, told Platteville police Dec. 10 that around 2:15 a.m. a man with his face painted black and armed with a knife robbed the store of cash and left in a dark-colored vehicle east on Business 151.

Shortly after that, according to police, a clerk at a Mineral Point business told a Mineral Point police officer that someone had been in his business washing his face. The officer alerted the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, which stopped the vehicle.

A search of Barthel revealed a knife, black boot polish, and cash, according to police.
