In the past the words summer school can feel like a punishment to a kid whose been looking forward to long sunny days all year long. But North Crawford School is working to change that with their diverse and fun offerings.

“We want to show the kids that opportunities to learn are every where,” Second Grade Teacher and summer school coordinator Amy Allbaugh said. “We want to make it an enrichment, but keep the students active and help them realize learning can be fun but still avoid that ‘summer slide’.”

The summer school program will run from June 12 until the 30. Courses will be available for students going into first grade through students who will be seniors.

“There is quite an offering of classes available,” noted Allbaugh. “We are so happy to have a great program!”

Students should register for classes according to the grade that they will be entering for the 2017-18 school year.  Registration is due by May 5, the forms can be returned to the students teacher. Students are invited to take as many classes as they wish free of charge.

When registering, it is asked that students order course preference with numbers 1,2,3. However, the school will do their best to honor first choices.

Once a student signs up for a class, they will be encouraged to attend each day. However, it is understandable that family trips are often planned during the summer and some absences will be inevitable.

Another perk of the program is free breakfast and lunch offered to all summer school students, under the age of 18. Students participating who are over the age of 18 can eat for a small fee, payable at mealtime.

No need to worry about transportation! There will be a morning bus route and afternoon bus route, more details will be available after enrollment closes.

Students may be picked up or dropped off at a baby sitters house by the bus as long as the residence is in the school district. Please note this request on the registration form.

There is a huge list of classes available, and many that most wouldn’t expect. Some of the course offerings include:

• Art Adventures for entering grades 2-5

•Basketball: How to be a great scorer for entering grades 7-12

Questions regarding swimming lessons can be directed to Pool Manager Jared Smith via Gays Mills Village Office.
