Two men have been arrested for several vehicle break-ins in southern Vernon County during the night of Dec. 20 and the early morning hours of Dec. 21.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. Sunday evening, the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua received a call from a citizen stating an altercation involving a knife was taking place behind Pat’s Corner Bar in the Village of Readstown.

After deputies arrived on scene and gathered statements, they determined that two males had been seen entering vehicles and had been caught behind the bar. The suspects then fled on foot.

Brian Schroeder, 32, Readstown, and Joseph Watters, 19, Boscobel, were taken into custody Monday morning. Both men were charged with theft and party to a crime, and Schroeder was also charged with carrying a concealed knife.

The incident remains under investigation.
