VERNON COUNTY - The Driftless Writing Center and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve are proud to host a reading by authors from The Driftless Reader to celebrate the anthology’s recent publication by the University of Wisconsin Press. The event will take place at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve in La Farge on Saturday, September 30.

Refreshments will be served and socializing will begin at 2 p.m. Authors and editors will read from the book at 3 p.m. Book sales and signing will begin at 4:30 p.m., and attendees will also be invited to pen their own brief odes to the Driftless region.

The Driftless Reader gathers writing and art from our unique area that has enchanted an astonishing variety of inhabitants and travelers with its beauty and rugged topography. Among the eighty authors represented in the book are Black Hawk, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Aldo Leopold, plus less famous raftsmen, soldiers, loggers, and explorers.

Also included are several contemporary writers, such as David Rhodes, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Fabu, and William Cronon. By combining short selections from diverse voices, editors Curt Meine and Keefe Keeley present a thorough exploration of this singular region’s cultural and natural landscape.

The September 30 reading coincides with the revival of the Driftless Writing Center, a nonprofit organization that connects writers, readers, and audiences through workshops, discussions, and public performances.

Admission to the reading is free and donations are appreciated.
