The Hillsboro School District now has a school garden thanks to many generous community members and businesses.

In May, the Hillsboro School District Wellness Committee was able to make their vision a reality.  Hillsboro Cement  Products donated the cement blocks used for the foundation, Ocooch Dairy donated the dirt, County Market donated cardboard and Tiger Pride (a parent/teacher organization) donated the seeds for the plants.

The school garden has given the students many valuable hands-on opportunities for learning.  It has increased their knowledge of where food comes from, how it is grown and its nutritional benefits.

The students were able to plant the raised bed garden and care for it by weeding and watering it.  They were able to incorporate the school garden into the summer school gardening and cooking classes.  In addition, some of the students were able to harvest vegetables for the school lunch program.

Thank you to all of the individuals and businesses that have created and supported this valuable outdoor classroom.
