Sheila Kelley, chair of the PHS Scholarship Fund Advisory Board announced that the Platteville Educator Endowed Scholarship has reached an important milestone.

Long-time Platteville area educators Dean and Sue Isaacson initiated the Platteville Educator Endowment three years ago with a substantial donation. A variety of other donors subsequently contributed to the fund helping it to grow to over $21,000, the minimum amount needed to provide an annual scholarship.

The Platteville Educator Endowed Scholarship will be awarded in perpetuity to a deserving PHS student with interest in an education career.

“The education profession needs to attract high achievers who are dedicated to helping others improve themselves”, said Dean Isaacson, former Platteville Public Schools superintendent, “and this scholarship is intended to encourage some of our best students to become educators.”

“Students from educator families have a firsthand understanding of what it takes to become an effective career educator and this scholarship will be available to deserving Platteville High School graduates who have a parent who is an educator for the Platteville school district, UW–Platteville or another Platteville area school district,” said Sue Isaacson, a former Southwestern teacher and UW–Platteville teacher trainer. “We hope to continue to attract donations to the Platteville Educator Scholarship Fund so that the size and number of scholarships encouraging prospective educators will grow.”

The PHS Scholarship Fund was formed through the work of the Platteville Community Fund. Both are component funds of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc., a tax-exempt public charity.
