Former state Sen. Dale Schultz has taken a position as lecturer in the social science department at UW–Platteville.

Schultz, who has 32 years of experience in the Wisconsin Legislature, began his pursuit in politics at UW–Madison, graduating with a degree in business with an emphasis is real estate and land economics. He was then elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1982, and was elected into the Wisconsin Senate in 1991.

Schultz said his interest in politics came at a very young age and throughout his experience, he’s learned that politics is something that every citizen should take part in or be aware of in some capacity.

“My mother thought it was important to read the newspaper every day, and I had an interest in [news] and politics so one thing led to another,” he said.

The former senator said he was humbled and excited to begin teaching politics at UW–Platteville since all of his immediate family are graduates of the UW System.

Schultz called it “a chance to give back in a unique way. The university has been helping my family, and I’ve been impressed by all of the kindness by the faculty throughout the years.”

Schultz also explained how invested he is in the students in his classes.

He said he wants to “help students become more engaged in a meaningful way. I want to give them skills to help them be successful outside of the classroom, and I want them to understand that I’m there for them.”

Schultz has two daughters, lives in Richland Center with wife Rachel, the retired Richland School District superintendent, and owns a 210-acre farm in Sauk County. He is a licensed Wisconsin real estate broker and businessman who has interests in other businesses.
