Matt Crist has been appointed to take over the spot on the Darlington School Board that Duane Jorgenson will soon be vacating.
Crist’s appointment was approved at the special school board meeting held on Monday, June 22, after interviews were held to fill the position.
Crist said he is excited for the opportunity to serve on the board.
“I am committed to help maintain a level of excellence in the educational experience at Darlington Community Schools. There are many challenges facing our school system in the upcoming years,” said Crist. “I want the community to know they can come to me with ideas and concerns. We are all in this together.”
Crist ran for a school board position back in April, but the votes put him in fourth place when there were only three open positions up for grabs. However, after Jorgenson won the election to be the new Lafayette County Circuit Court judge, he was required to step down from the school board, meaning a replacement board member was needed.
Crist is employed with Frontier FS in Darlington and also works with his brothers in a family farm operation. Crist and his wife, Cindy, have three children in the Darlington School District: Ross, 9, Kylie, 7, and Ryker, 5.
