Platteville Public Schools staff presenting at music conference

The 2015 Wisconsin State Music Conference at Monona Terrace in Madison Oct. 28–30 will feature four members of Platteville Public Schools music staff in leadership roles.

Strings teacher Owen Strizic is the orchestra coordinator and string bass coach for the Wisconsin School Music Association High School State Honors Project. Strizic will work with the orchestra’s conductor and teach the finest string bass players in the state.

Platteville High School instrumental teacher Nancy Fairchild will play horn with the Wisconsin College and University Faculty Brass and Percussion Ensemble, which will present a concert Thursday, Oct. 29 at 2:50 p.m.

Platteville Middle School vocal and general music teacher Marcia Russell is the Wisconsin Music Educators’ State Chair for Choral Music. Russell will present “Analysis: Slaying the Dragon” on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 11:50 a.m.

PHS vocal music teacher Amelia Armstrong will present “Small Town, Big Boosters: How to Make the Most of your Small Town Music Boosters Organization” Friday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. Panel members include Platteville Music Boosters president Sue Musarra and PHS alumnus John Turba, a music teacher for Iola–Scandinavia Schools.

Platteville was named a 2015 Best Community for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants, based on evidence of outstanding school music programs, highly trained music staff, and strong community support of music education.
