Platteville High School senior Jonah Barnet is the recipient of a National Merit Scholarship to attend Iowa State University.
Barnet is one of approximately 2,000 winners of National Merit Scholarships funded by 184 U.S. colleges and universities, announced today. The awards provide $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years.
Barnet was chosen from 16,000 students nationwide selected as semifinalists, which was out of the 1.4 million students who took the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors. About 7,600 high school seniors will receive college- or corporate-funded National Merit Scholarships totaling $34 million.
Barnet plans to go into aerospace engineering.
