Shullsburg School District holds annual board meeting and budget hearing

The annual meeting and budget hearing for the Shullsburg School District and was held on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
    The proposed 2016 budget was presented by interim superintendent, John Timmerman, and outlined a beginning general fund balance of $796,802.54 for the 2015/2016 school year and an ending fund balance of $754,961.54, showing an overall decrease of $41,841 over the year.
    Total revenues for the district were anticipated to be $4,379,214 with total expenditures coming in at $4,421,055. Timmerman reported that happily there was about a 2.8% increase in revenues from the past year, but unfortunately there was also a 3.2% increase in expenditures.
    Total revenues for the 2014/2015 school year were $4,259,758.35 while total expenditures were $4,283,541.58.
    The estimated total tax levy was $1,310,540 with a mill rate of $10.15, a decrease from last year’s tax levy of $1,418,153.88.
    Only three members of the public were in attendance at the annual school board meeting.
