Southwest Health Center offering health care scholarships

The Southwest Health Center Foundation is accepting applications for a slate of 2014 scholarships, with awards from $500 and up for area students pursuing careers in health care.

Over the past decade, the Southwest Health Foundation has provided awards totaling more than $100,000 to students from Platteville, Cuba City, Belmont, Livingston, Dickeyville, Hazel Green, Benton, and Shullsburg.

Eligible are all students enrolled in an accredited program for the 2014–15 school year who are seeking a degree in a healthcare field. Those employed by Southwest Health who live outside the identified zip codes will also be considered.

Students who are considering a health care career are strongly encouraged to apply.

Scholarships include:

•    Thelma Longhorn Memorial Scholarship (Nursing; $500)
•    The Lyle and Lenice Curtis Scholarships (any health related field; amounts vary)
•    Laura Tennessen Memorial Scholarship (CNA programs; $500)
•    Dr. Cedric and Phyllis King Scholarship (Nursing; $1,000)

Applications are available on Southwest Health’s website at www.southwesthealth.org/scholarships. Completed application packets are due April 9 at 3 p.m. All application packets must be postmarked, hand-delivered or emailed to Foundation Executive Director Tammie Richter by April 9, with no exceptions permitted.
