Affordable Care Act session for present, retired teachers Oct. 16

The Southwest Education Association and the Platteville Area Retired Educators Association will host an informational session about the Affordable Care Act at the SWEA office, 960 N. Washington St., Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m.

The speaker will be Kevin Kane of the Health Care Committee of Citizen Action of Wisconsin. The event is open to all area current and retired school district and university employees.

The federal government is taking applications for the new health care exchanges Oct. 1, but they do not take effect until Jan. 1. Information at the session includes the status of current medical plans and doctors, the cost of plans, and government subsidies, and how to apply.
