Almost nine months ago, the Discover Wisconsin TV show came to the Platteville Hometown Festival’s Hometown Hog Roast to shoot video of the motorcycles and their riders who were visiting.

The results of Discover Wisconsin’s work will be shown in “Motorcycling — Wisconsin’s Western Ride,” which will be shown on affiliate TV channels May 10–11.

The TV show started a premiere of a different kind. Platteville will host its first Kick Start to Tourism event on lower Main Street Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We don’t have a spring festival, and we just thought it was something we should be doing,” said Platteville Regional Chamber executive director Kathy Kopp. “The timing with the beginning of National Tourism Week and getting out and exploring your own backyard — that’s the whole premise of it.”

The event will feature the Discover Wisconsin show at the Avalon Cinema continuously from 1 to 3 p.m.

The show will feature cohost Mariah Haberman riding around the Platteville area. Haberman and cohost Collin Geraghty were filmed at the Veterans Honor Roll, the M, and the Hometown Hog Roast.

“I just can’t get over the experience of discovering Wisconsin by motorcycle—it truly is unlike any other feeling,” said Haberman. “This episode is a must-see for anyone who believes the journey can be just as fulfilling as the destination itself.”

The show also features Hillsboro, La Crosse, Sparta and Tomah.

Beyond the show, Kick Start Tourism will include live music by the Aquatic Hitchhikers at 11 a.m., Tristan Hirsch at 12:30 p.m., and Black Water Gin at 1:30 p.m.

In contrast to motorcycles, the Southwest Auto Club will hold a car rally, with cars parked in the Pine, Second and Oak street parking lots, and a bike ride to the M will leave from Momentum Bikes, 25 W. Main St., at 9 a.m.

A veterans art exhibit will be located at the former Pioneer Ford building at 75 S. Oak St. “Those That Served” will be on display at the Rollo Jamison and Mining Museum, 405 E. Main St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A video of “Remembrance” by the Platteville High School F-Troupe will be shown as well.

Discover Wisconsin’s affiliates include Fox Sports Wisconsin, Saturdays at 10 a.m., and WKOW-TV (channel 27) in Madison, Saturdays at 6:30 p.m.
