Gays Mills Spring Festival is back with lots of fun in store

GAYS MILLS - After a year that was eerily quiet, its nice to have spring festival happening in the village of Gays Mills again. This year’s lineup includes the Old Iron Revival Tractor Pull, the Little Britches Rodeo, and the Ocooch Mountain Rescue Squad Mother’s Day Pancake Breakfast.

Little Britches Rodeo

The Little Britches Rodeo is back this year on May 8 and 9 at the Crawford County Fairgrounds, Gays Mills. The weekend starts off on Friday night with open jackpot barrel racing. 

Registration starts at 5:30 p.m., exhibition at 6 p.m. and barrel racing at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to compete. A negative coggins is required. 

The rodeo will start on Saturday and Sunday at 9 am.  There is an admission of $5 each day.  There will not be any mutton bustin’ this year. 

Old Iron Revival

The Old Iron Revival Tractor Pull 2021 is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, starting at 11 a.m. This is a blacktop pull using the Midwest Pulling Sled. It will be a $20 hook fee with 50 percent payback in each class. Food will be available on site.

The classes will be:

• Antique 3 mph (15.5/14.9x38 Or 16.9x28 max tire, 18 inch high hitch 10 percent over stock rpm)

• Improved Antique 4 mph 

(15.5/14.9x38 or 16.9x28 max tire, reverse tire allowed, 18 high hitch 2600 max rpm)

• Super Antique 6 mph (18.4x38 tires reverse tire allowed, 20in high hitch)

• Farm 5 mph (20.8x38 tires, 20in high hitch)

All proceeds from the Old Iron Revival Antique Tractor Pull will be donated to the North Crawford FFA Chapter.

“Being a former member of this chapter it makes me proud to see this happening,” Matt Butler said. “Groups like the FFA are what gives our youth the knowledge and abilities that aren’t always included in other school curriculums.”

Pancake Breakfast

Ocooch Mountain Rescue Squad will offer their Mother’s Day Pancake Breakfast at their building at 111 Royal Avenue, Gays Mills, on Sunday, May 9, serving from 7-11 a.m. A free-will donation is appreciated.
