The Holiday Ice Fisheree will once again bring a buzz of activity to Fennimore during the week between Christmas and New Year’s. It will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 28 and cost a two-person team $20, which includes lunch at The Hilltop.
The event began three years ago as a small event planned simply to give people something to do between the holidays, when the college students are back home, some workers are laid off, and there are fewer sporting activities, according to Denny Friederick, one of the coordinators of the event.

“It’s always the same Wednesday, between Christmas and New Year’s,” Friederick said. “It started with 12 teams of two the first year, and last year, we had 30 teams.”

Participants must sign up at The Hilltop anytime before Dec. 27. Fishing runs from sun up to  just before 2 p.m., as weigh-ins will be held at the bar at 2 p.m. sharp. Lunch will be served there as well.

“Last year, we had it at the 2nd Shot and we could barely fit everyone in there, so this year, there will be plenty of room at The Hilltop,” Friederick said.

The fishermen and women competing will try to win in the following categories: biggest bluegill and heaviest 10, biggest crappie and heaviest 10, biggest perch, biggest bass, biggest northern, and biggest walleye. All participants are welcome and they are encouraged to utilize the many streams in the area for the contest.
