DARLINGTON – The Johnson Public Library has many events for the public to enjoy. The events for Aug. are: Aug. 11-Story Hour 10 a.m.; Aug. 15-Reading & Wading at the Darlington Baby Pool 10 a.m. (pre-schoolers); Aug. 18-Story Hour 10 a.m.; Aug. 21-Eclipse Viewing Party! Bring a sack lunch & folding chair to Library Park at noon! Free viewing glasses and Eclipse Eclairs!; Aug. 25-Story Hour 10 a.m.
LCHS Depot Museum
DARLINGTON – The Lafayette County Historical Society Depot Museum and Tourist Information Center, South Washington Street, Darlington, will be open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. during the month of August. Stop by and see original railroad items on display in the Depot and other artifacts of business, farm and home in the attached Annex. Admission is free (donations are welcome but not required). Top off your tour with a stop at the Ice Cream Castle on the Depot grounds.
McCoy Public Library
SHULLSBURG – For the month of August we have a BINGO reading challenge for children through 5th grade. Stop at the desk for your BINGO card and start playing today!  Aug. 10 from 1-2 p.m. we will host a Legos at the library event for children in 1st-5th grades. Join us to make your own Lego marble maze!
Women’s Guild
DARLINGTON – The Women’s Guild of Immanuel UCC will meet on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 12noon at the church. We will be having a pizza party with games. Everyone is welcome.
Sons of Norway picnic

BLANCHARDVILLE – Join the free, hands-on natural science program for all ages, led by the Yellowstone Lake State Park Naturalist on Friday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. Meet in the amphitheater near the campground.  Park admission requires a vehicle sticker. 
Look, Up In the Sky
BLANCHARDVILLE – On Saturday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m., stop over at Yellowstone Lake State Park and look up in the sky. Join in on this free, hands-on natural science program for all ages, led by the Yellowstone Lake State Park Naturalist. Mary O’Leary’s Cabin meet and greet
SHULLSBURG – Stop in at Mary O’Leary’s Cabin for a meet and greet with A Simple Life Magazine’s publisher and editor, Jill Peterson on Saturday, Aug. 12. 15th Annual Steak Fry and Sweet Corn Boil
WOODFORD – Come out to the 15th Annual Woodford Fire and EMS Department Steak Fry and Sweet Corn Boil on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Full meals are $15, half meals are $9. Carryouts are available. Meals include rib eye steaks, sweet corn, potatoes, baked beans, dessert and a beverage. All proceeds are used to purchase supplies for training and fire equipment.
Lunch Bunch
DARLINGTON – The topic of discussion at the Monday, Aug. 14, 2017 meeting of Lunch Bunch will be, “Understanding Dementia and Becoming a Dementia Friendly Environment.”  The gathering will take place in the County Board Room of the Lafayette County Courthouse from noon to 1:00 p.m.   Feel free to bring your lunch during this informal hour. Whitney Thompson, Dementia Specialist with Aging & Disability Resource Center of Southwest Wisconsin, will be the presenter for this session.  The items discussed will be:  signs and symptoms, brain stimulations, and what we can all do to help others with Dementia.  Questions from the public are welcome. The public is welcome to attend the informal, free session sponsored in part by Lafayette County Home and Community Education (HCE), UW-Extension, and free- will donations.
Lafayette County Sew and Sews
DARLINGTON – The meeting of the Lafayette County Sew and Sews is always the 2nd Monday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Community Room at Town Bank in Darlington. The next meeting will be Aug. 14. Everyone is welcome.
Tri-State Needlearts
PLATTEVILLE – The Tri-State Needlearts EGA meet the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Ridge Apts. Community Room, 1510 Bears Court, Platteville. DARLINGTON – The Darlington Garden Club will meet on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room of Town Bank in Darlington. Connie Ubersox will provide the program. Roberta Delp is the hostess. Newcomers are welcome.
Community Blood Drive
LAFAYETTE COUNTY - The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center encourages eligible donors to resolve to give blood regularly. Donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types AB, O, B negative and A negative. For questions about eligibility, please call the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center at (800) 747-5401. Blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour.  Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure may be accepted as eligible donors. The MVRBC is the exclusive provider to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.

SHULLSBURG – The annual Ubersox-Teutschmann Reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 20 beginning at noon at the West Shelter House, Badger Park, Shullsburg.  Please bring your own table service and a dish to pass.  Refreshments will be provided.  Looking forward to seeing you all there!
Mushroom hunting
DARLINGTON – On Aug. 21 at 7 p.m., Argyle library director, Sarah Kyrie will present a program about mushrooms. Sarah is experienced at hunting and identifying mushrooms. If you are a morel hunter or would just like to learn something new, please join us. There is no charge for any programming at the Bluebird Nest Nature Center, 308 Main Street, Darlington.
Briggs and Reed Tractor Drive
ORANGEVILLE – Don’t forget about our 12th Annual “BRIGGS AND REED TRACTOR DRIVE” on Sat., Sept. 2, 2017.  We start at Jim Briggs’ farm, 3699 W.
