Johnson Public Library Activities

Garden Club
DARLINGTON – The Darlington Garden Club will meet on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of Town Bank in Darlington. Connie Ubersox will provide the program. Roberta Delp is the hostess. Newcomers are welcome.
Heart Health Session
DARLINGTON – The Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation, the Wisconsin Community Health Fund and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Lafayette County Health Department are hosting a FREE heart health educational session. This event will take place at Town Bank in the Community Room on Thursday, Aug. 17 at noon. Lunch will be provided and a registered nurse will share information on how attendees can protect their heart by knowing their numbers and identifying personal risk factors.
Community Blood Drive
LAFAYETTE COUNTY - The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center encourages eligible donors to resolve to give blood regularly. Donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types AB, O, B negative and A negative. For questions about eligibility, please call the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center at (800) 747-5401. Blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour.  Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure may be accepted as eligible donors. The MVRBC is the exclusive provider to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.

Yellowstone State Park programs
BLANCHARDVILLE – Yellowstone State Park will be holding events on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 18 & 19 at 7 p.m. Rockhounding and Geology will be on Aug. 18 and Buzz, Bite, Sting: Insects and More will be Aug. 19. These will be a free, hands-on natural science programs for all ages, led by the Yellowstone Lake State Park Naturalist. Meet in the amphitheater near the campground.  Park admission requires a vehicle sticker.  Park Office: 608-523-4427
Two-Day Trail Ride
DARLINGTON – Join in on the 49th Annual Two-Day Trail Ride on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 19 & 20 at the Darlington Farms at 18019 Holland Road, Darlington. Friday night, Aug. 18 will be the potluck supper from 6-8 p.m. where everyone is welcome. Saturday the all day right begins at 10 a.m. sharp. Lunch on the trail is $5. Saturday night supper is from 6-8 p.m. with roast beef and roasted chicken and a D.J. from 8 p.m.-12 a.m. Sunday is one ride from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. All rides are $15/person for the weekend. Trailer available back to camp. Sponsored by the Saddle Club of Darlington.
Luke Fest
DARLINGTON – The 2nd Annual Luke Fest will take place at the Darlington Festival Grounds on Saturday, Aug. 19 starting at 1 p.m. with Just Jake performing. Craft beer tasting starts at 1-5 p.m.  with live music by the Season 10 Runner-Up from The Voice, Adam Wakefield singing at 5 p.m. Live auction will take place at 7 p.m. and The Cheap Shots will perform at 8 p.m. This event is presented by The Wiegel Strong Foundation.
ATV Routes Fundraiser
DARLINGTON – The Lafayette County ATV Routes Fundraiser will be Saturday, Aug. 19 at 4 p.m. at the Darlington Country Club. All proceeds will be used for signage and posts. Food, 50/50 raffle and other games with the drawing at 7 p.m. $50/ticket with only 500 tickets being sold. 30 grand prize raffle winners will win: ½ hog (including processing). Tickets can be purchased at Riechers Meat Market, My Turn Pub, Mike’s Corner Bar and G Nyff’s Bar.
Barn Party
DARLINGTON – Join us for a Barn Party on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 4:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m. at Dave & Cara Carper’s residence 12040 County D, Darlington, between Wiota & Lamont. Sandwiches and beverages provided. Dishes to pass are welcome. Live music by The Accidentals 50s/60s Band, Dave’s Blues Band and Sweet Lucy. Bring non-perishable food for the local food pantry.
Celebration of Life
DARLINGTON – Celebrate the life of James “Burkie” Burke on Saturday, Aug. 19 at Virtue Motors watching the nighttime race of Bristol. Gates open at 4 p.m., memorial service at 6:30 p.m. and race starts at 7:30 p.m. Wear your racing attire in JB’s honor.

SHULLSBURG – The annual Ubersox-Teutschmann Reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 20 beginning at noon at the West Shelter House, Badger Park, Shullsburg.  Please bring your own table service and a dish to pass.  Refreshments will be provided.  Looking forward to seeing you all there!
Mushroom hunting
DARLINGTON – On Aug. 21 at 7 p.m., Argyle library director, Sarah Kyrie will present a program about mushrooms. Sarah is experienced at hunting and identifying mushrooms. If you are a morel hunter or would just like to learn something new, please join us. There is no charge for any programming at the Bluebird Nest Nature Center, 308 Main Street, Darlington.
Deer Advisory Council meeting
DARLINGTON – Lafayette County Deer Advisory Council (CDAC) meeting will be held at the Darlington Middle School on Monday, Aug. 21, at 7:00 p.m. Purpose is to develop recommendations regarding deer population objectives and Deer Management Unit (DMU) boundaries that will influence the deer herd management in Lafayette County over the next three years. Public is encouraged to attend as the public will have a formal opportunity to provide insight during the meeting. Recommendations will be sent to the Natural Resources Board for approval in December.

DARLINGTON – Stop in Darlington for the Thanks for Shopping Darlington event on Thursday, Aug. 24 from 4-7 p.m. Join us in Darlington to shop, eat and have fun! Downtown and Uptown (on the hill) businesses will open later for you to do some shopping and take advantage of their in store events and the Chamber/Main Street will be serving complimentary hotdogs, chips, soda and water at the corner of Main and Ann Streets. Briggs and Reed Tractor Drive
ORANGEVILLE – Don’t forget about our 12th Annual “BRIGGS AND REED TRACTOR DRIVE” on Sat., Sept. 2, 2017.  We start at Jim Briggs’ farm, 3699 W. Manor Auxiliary Annual Cookout
DARLINGTON – The Lafayette Manor Auxiliary will once again be hosting their ANNUAL COOKOUT/FUNDRAISER on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 serving brats, burgers, and goodies from 4-7 p.m.  The cookout will be held at the Lafayette County Fairgrounds in the FLORAL HALL. The fun-filled evening will consist of a cookout, live local music, and a gift basket raffle.
