Make a May basket at the Gays Mills Library
basket-of-flowers

Spread some spring cheer by making a May Basket for your friends and neighbors. The Gays Mills Public Library will be hosting a Drop-In May Basket Workshop on Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30 during regular library hours. The library will supply the basket making and decorating supplies along with a pansy for each May basket. Participants supply the inspiration and talent.

The tradition of delivering May Basket may have its roots in Roman times in honor of the Goddess Flora, but the modern practice of May Day varies from region to region. In many places, children made simple May Baskets filled with flowers and candy and left them anonymously on the doorstep of their neighbors. The delight in making the May Basket is often as rich as the delight of receiving one.

The Gays Mills Public Library invites adults as well as children to drop by the library on Wednesday, April 29 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. or Thursday between 2 and 7 p.m. to make some May Baskets.

This free drop-in workshop is designed with your busy schedule in mind. If you have questions, feel free to call or drop by the library.
